Carmichael
Pulls Out Second Consecutive Win
Reigning
Regional Supercross Champion Langston Wins his First Race of the Season
ANAHEIM, Calif.
(January 21, 2006) Suzukis Ricky Carmichael, of Haines City, Fla.,
won his second consecutive Ampd Mobile World Supercross GP/Ampd
Mobile AMA Supercross Series race in front of a sold-out (45,050 fans) Angel
Stadium. Kawasakis Grant Langston, of Clermont, Fla., won his first AMA
Supercross Lites race of the season. Tonights race will air on CBS Sports
tomorrow, January 22, at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Hondas David
Vuillemin, of Frisco, Texas, won the Toyota Holeshot Award in The AMA Supercross
main event with Suzukis Ivan Tedesco in tow and Hondas Jeremy McGrath
in third. Tedesco moved into the lead on lap 1. Kawasakis James Stewart,
of Haines City, Fla., worked his way into the lead on lap four and one lap later,
Carmichael pulled into second place. Carmichael chased Stewart the next 14 laps,
until Stewart crashed into a lapped rider. Carmichael rode off to his second
win of the season, Yamahas Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., finished second
and Stewart was third.
Tonights
sell-out marks the second consecutive sell-out for Ampd Mobile World Supercross
GP/Ampd Mobile AMA Supercross Series racing at Angel Stadium this season.
I am sorry
that I crashed that way and the race ended, said Stewart. It was
a good clean race, and we have one more stop in Anaheim, so that will be my
next chance to get a win in front of these fans.
Carmichael, who
won with consistency and patience enjoyed the tight, clean racing with Stewart
but didnt want to win because of a crash.
I do not
liking winning this way, and it was very unfortunate what happened to James,
said Carmichael. It was hard to get by him, and it was great that we kept
the racing clean out there. This is a dream come true for me tonight. This makes
all of the hard work I do during the week worth it. This is what our sport needs:
good clean racing.
KTMs Mike
Alessi, of Victorville, Calif., picked up the Toyota Holeshot Award, in the
AMA Supercross Lites class. On the opening lap Langston and Anaheim 1 winner
Andrew Short, of Murrieta, Calif., traded places for the number two position.
Langston outlasted Short in the dual, then passed Alessi for the lead on lap
2 and stayed there until the checkered flag came out. Former 125cc regional
supercross champion Nathan Ramsey settled into third place on lap 3 where he
would finish.
Its
always easy when you get a good start, said Langston. Everything
felt right tonight; it all clicked together and this was the easiest race that
I have ever won because I felt so comfortable. I was at ease, felt smooth and
rode well tonight.
