Round 8 - AMA Motocross Championship Series
Washougal, WA
Washougal MX Park
July 30-31, 2005

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael continued to dominate AMA Motocross this weekend. Not only did the recently crowned 2005 THQ AMA Supercross Champion win at Washougal on Sunday, but this particular win marks his eighth (out of a potential eight races, no less) consecutive victory of the season. Additionally, this overall MX win is Carmichael’s 123rd combined AMA Supercross/AMA Motocross career victory.

Not surprisingly, Carmichael continued his winning ways in the first Washougal moto by taking the lead immediately and holding it until the end. Indeed, he won the first 250cc moto by almost 30 seconds. The second moto saw Carmichael come out in third place, and then pass two riders in one turn to take the lead before the end of the second lap. The rest, as they say, is history.

Ricky Carmichael:
”This was a great day, a great win for the Makita Suzuki team and this is a great part of the country and a great track. I enjoy coming here to race because the track is so good and it’s great to see so much enthusiasm from the fans. In the second moto, I had a bit of a problem, maybe something was in my carburetor but it worked itself out. It was fun riding around behind Kevin (Windham) and it was good to see Ernesto (Fonseca) doing so good. But this was just a great day and it was awesome to see everybody out here.” In the 125 class, Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Broc Hepler and Davi Millsaps carded impressive third- and fourth-place finishes overall, respectively. In the first moto, Hepler got a good start and ran in third place for much of the race, however, he was bumped back to fifth on the last lap. In the second moto, Hepler again got out front quickly and then charged hard to get into the lead by the halfway point of the race. Millsaps was also up front at the start of the first and second motos, and rode consistently and smoothly in both races -- the result being a strong fourth-place overall at the end of the weekend.

Broc Hepler:
“We had a few problems in the first moto, but in the second race my Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 was working awesome and the Bridgestone tires were hooking up everywhere. I’ve just got to thank the Makita Suzuki team and everybody who’s been helping me out with training and everything. I also want to thank all the fans for cheering me on out there.”

Davi Millsaps:
”My Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 got me off to good starts in both motos. I was really hoping to get a podium finish, and I’ve got to hand it to all these guys out here because everybody’s riding really great. Now I’m just looking forward to Millville and getting back up on the podium.”
