Round 4 - AMA Motocross Championship Series

Budds Creek, MD
Budds Creek MX Park
June 18-19, 2005

In front of a loud and enthusiastic Maryland crowd, Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael won his fourth consecutive AMA Motocross race of the 2005 season at Budds Creek.  The 2005 THQ AMA Supercross and defending AMA Motocross Champion got the holeshot in both of his 30-minute motos.  After taking the lead in each, Carmichael also led all the laps on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 before taking the overall win on Father’s Day.  This marks Carmichael’s 119th combined AMA Supercross/Motocross career victory.

Ricky Carmichael:
”I appreciate all the fans and the cheering.  This is awesome, you know, I’m getting to do something I love to do and I know that someday it has to come to an end.  But I can’t say enough about Suzuki for bringing me such a good bike in the Makita Suzuki RM-Z450.  The bike is great and it just makes me want to work harder for the team.  In that last moto, I just fell down early on.  I like racing Chad (Reed), he makes me work hard and he’s a true champion.  But I also can’t say enough about Budds Creek -- the weather was great and the fans were awesome.  Thank you.”In the 125 class, Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Davi Millsaps carded two eighth-place moto finishes, which resulted in a sixth-place overall finish for the young Georgian.  Teammate Broc Hepler, meanwhile, got tangled up with another rider in the first moto and crashed.  Hepler ended the day with a 21st-place finish overall.

 Broc Hepler:
“In the first moto, I was running third for most of it and then I went to make the pass for second and Andrew (Short) didn’t let up so we both crashed and I didn’t finish.  My ankle was a little sore but I’m OK.  In the second moto, I got a really bad start because I had a bad gate pick from my finish in the first moto.  My Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 was running fine but I made a few small mistakes early on and the fast guys got away and I just couldn’t catch up.”

Davi Millsaps:
“In both motos, I got bad starts so I knew I had to catch up.  So I just put my head down and rode my Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 as hard as I could and tried to be consistent.  I’d be happier with a podium finish, but considering I started from way back, I’ll take sixth overall.  I’m just looking forward to Red Bud in July and getting my Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 back on the podium where it belongs.”getting my Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 back on the podium where it belongs.”
