Round 14 Seattle, first race 2-18-78, Jimmy Ellis won on a Honda. From 1978 to
1999, the SX was held here in the old King Dome. This will be the 33rd time the
gate will drop in Seattle; however the first time the gate will drop in the new
stadium.
First time winners: Darrell Shultz 1981; Rick Johnson and Jeff Ward 1984 (note:
This was accomplished on the same weekend at the double header); Larry Ward 1990.
Larry Ward won his first ever SX here in 1990 on Suzuki. Nine years later he won
his last ever supercross here also on a Suzuki. He is tied with Bob Hannah for
longest time between wins at the same venue, and second all time. LaRocco owns
the record with 13 years. Reed gets his 22nd SX win. He now sits 5th on the all
time 250 sx win list. He just passed Jeff Ward. RC, only rider to podium every
round this season. Reed is next with 12 consecutive podiums. Reed is 2nd on Yamaha
all time win list, behind McGrath with 25 wins. LaRocco gets another top five,
that's a 141 total. That's the record. McGrath has a 138 top fives. Wins by brand
at Seattle: Honda 16, Yamaha 8, Suzuki 5, Kawasaki 4. Kawasaki won here only four
times 84, 88,86,94. Last wins by brand: Suzuki 99, Yamaha 98, Honda 96, Kawasaki
94.
125 West: Wins by brand at Seattle: Kawasaki 8, Honda 5, Suzuki 4, Yamaha 3.
Yamaha didn't win their first race until '96. 1997, David Vuillemin won his first
ever 125 SX at Seattle. Jeff Matiasevich swept both nights of a double header
at Seattle in 1988 and 1989. Kawasaki won the first ever 125 sx at Seattle, the
second night of the double header and Kawasaki won the last 125 race at Seattle
in '99 with Ramsey on a Kawasaki. Ramsey has won a 125 SX on a Kawasaki, KTM,
Yamaha, and Honda. Can he win here this weekend on a KTM?
125 East: This was the first time ever in any coast that the final point standings
ended in a tie. Two times the champ won by one point in '87 and '89. That was
Kawasaki's sixth East title, 14th overall 125 SX title. If Tedesco wins the West,
Kawasaki will sweep this year. It will be their second sweep ever, and they will
become the first brand to sweep the 125's back to back seasons. Suzuki had two
sweeps in '87 and '94 and Honda had one sweep in '91. No brand has ever done it
back to back.
