Miss Supercross Brittney - Dallas
Brittney George

Dallas called for some unexpected weather. Major down pours, crazy lightening shows, and tornado warnings were wreaking havoc two days before race day. The Dallas stadium is not fully covered and the large opening in the roof let all the wild weather pour in. Dirt Worcs and Live Nation had a heads up on the weather and knew what they had to do to prepare and keep the track from being a torrential mess. The track was built right away early in the week and plastic tarps covered the whole track and floor. The rain was crazy and flooded the area. But Saturday morning it was a miracle, the weather cleared up and there wasn’t a drop of rain. The stadium was a mess and flooded with the rain and they had to pump the water off the plastic tarps covering the track then take each plastic sheet off carefully. The track was in decent condition, but the lower parts were swampy mud and the higher parts like the tops of the jumps were in great condition. I had to borrow a pair of mud boots from Asterisk to walk around in the mess surrounding the track.  As the day went on and the sun was shining, the track starting to pull together and the muddy mess was drying up.  The track walk was cancelled till 2:30pm, so the riders and mechanics had all morning to figure out what to do with the bikes as far as to what tires to use on the multi-terrain track and how to prepare the bike. The practice schedule was altered and began at 3:05pm and everyone got only one practice.  So since practice time was cut in half, Terry, Erv and I had a fun time entertaining the fans who showed up early.

Thanks to everyone’s hard work and Mother Nature’s, the track was perfect for the night show.  It still had it’s share of  sticky, clumpy, rocky mess, with slick in corners, and lots of obstacles, but the riders really took to it with a pretty fast pace. The Lites class proved that.  We had a new face on the podium in the heat race, tucker Hibbert, who earned 1 st place. He is an accomplished snow mobile racer and an X-Games medalist. He has played dual roles racing MotoX and SnowX.

This is such an exciting season for the Lites. Even though Morais has not gotten 1 st place on the podium, he still holds the points lead by 3. Townley is closing the gap and it helped him out a lot after his win in Dallas. But his team mate and former Arenacross Champ is not far behind in points and earned a 2 nd this weekend. I have this feeling in Detroit it’s going to be a very intense battle. Who is going to take the East Championship #1 plate? It all goes down and is decided there in Detroit. I’m also looking forward to Seattle to see if the time off gave any of the West riders an edge. And then the Vegas shootout, it is going to be good! You’d better get online and get your tickets now!

Talking with many of the riders, the next 3 weeks is a welcome break. Many plan to rest up a bit but also maintain a rigorous practice schedule. Some said they will take advantage of the time to gear up for the last East Lites race and other are already looking to the outdoor season and testing for that.

For me, it’s time to get caught up on homework and enjoy the awesome Havasu weather. Next stop Detroit!

See you at the races!
