Anaheim 2 gave us a clear picture that Stewart is on a steady race pace to the podium with each SX. And with the absence of RC at the A2 round, it was a bet on who would take the podium with Stewart and Reed. Nick Wey stepped it up and took a holeshot and 3rd place for the night to join the podium. The Lites class had scuffles of place changes and battles of its own. Again it was a race to the podium. Once again Villopoto topped the podium in 1st, Lawrence pounded his way to 2nd, and a new comer to the Lites and the podium, Hill, took home his first 3rd place.
The fans had the perfect weekend for the complete A2 experience starting with the pit activities to the race action. I feel that a fan’s Supercross day isn’t complete or I should say; you can’t start it off better than making your rounds in the pits. So much is happening; the mechanics are making fine tuned adjustments on the bikes, riders are accessible to the fans for autographs and photos, all the sponsors are showing off their incredible products, and there’s tons of merchandise for sale. Like I have mentioned before a full supercross experience isn’t complete if you haven’t taken in the full day of events.
For me spending time in the pits gives me chance to catch up on what’s new with riders, mechanics, and teams, and to also get out there and meet race fans. The fans are pumped and ready for supercross racing. It’s so cool to see kids running around with autographs all over their shirts, carrying signed posters, or some even make their own homemade shirts or banners sporting favorite riders. It’s adorable to see a little kid’s eyes light up when they see a rider, get an autograph, or get to check out the bikes of their favorite stars. It is an amazing experience to spend the afternoon in the lively pits and see everything so up-close and personal.
The sponsors set up displays that not only advertise their products, but they also give you the opportunity to experience their product hands on. They are a source of entertainment showing appreciation to the fans. Toyota is always stepping it up and moving forward; with that said I was able to check out their new display in the pits and actually ride in a new Toyota Tundra. The big hit was jumping inside the new Toyota truck and taking a lap around the Glen Helen MX track. It gives you a feel of the handling, durability, and comfort of the new Toyota. Right around the corner from Toyota was Amp’d Mobile, which can’t be missed. Amp’d mobile has really tuned into the fans technology needs and has an awesome display of their amazing phones right in the pits. I was so excited because last weekend at A2 I got my new Amp’d phone. Davi Millsaps was able to take some time after his autograph session at Amp’d and show me the inside scoop with the Amp’d Mobile phones. It was simple and easy to sign up and get my phone right there. You are able to choose and customize your own plan fit for you. And the best part is the Amp’d entertainment. This phone offers so much. With the touch of a button I can access all sorts of entertainment channels, radio, sports, music, games, tones, graphics, and the internet. And best of all I can keep up with pictures, interviews, and a live cast of the Amp’d Mobile Supercross series.
For a complete supercross day and experience, you have to take in everything it has to offer. Many things go on at the races, but during the day if you are not watching practice, then it’s all happening in the pits. I hope to see you in the pits, at the races, and in San Francisco as we head there this coming weekend.
See you at the races!
