Houston being the largest city in Texas , was a perfect Supercross location! We had wonderful weather which made for a perfect day for the fans in the pits and at night in the Houston Texan’s Reliant indoor Stadium where the weather was controlled. This is the last indoor stadium for the season. It proved to be good luck for Millsaps as he accomplished his goal claiming the East Lites class championship. Congratulations Davi! Honda must be very jazzed since it has been 13 years since the last time Honda had a Lites (125) champion. In the Supercross class once again the podium line up was Stewart, RC, and Reed. Stewart is only 17 points behind RCin the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, and 5 behind Reed now. After hearing RC's interview after the race, he is determined more than ever to rise to the occasion and step up his game!
The Supercross Main event started off with the holeshot going to Byrne, but Stewart made a quick pass to take the lead and charge once again for the win. RC held close behind Stewart, but didn’t keep up the lap times in the end which left him with second place. Reed held a strong race in third to round up the podium. It was awesome to see Kevin Windham on the track again as he pulled off a fourth place. Being only his third race back into the season, he's riding smooth and strong. Since he's been back, I've had a chance to talk with him a few times and I must say he is truly a very genuine cool guy and I wish him luck in the outdoor season.
It was a big night for Honda as Millsaps set atop the podium with his number one plate in hand. He rode a consistent and strong season. He will continue the rest of the season in the Supercross class on a 450, and it still remains unknown which class he will contend in for the Vegas finals. The podium wrapped up with Hahn in second and Gosselaar in third. Grant had an early, unexpected fall in the beginning of the race which left him with no bike to finish off the race.
During the night show, I again had the opportunity to announce the KTM Juniors race. I was so excited! The KJSC riders are introduced during opening ceremonies and then gear up for their race midway into the night. I announced the starting line up and soon after they get ready for the gate to drop. I was able to commentate the race with Erv and then run over to the podium for the top three finisher interviews. I was pretty nervous for this part. This is a tough crew to interview, you never know what words are going to come out of these kids mouths. They are so cute and this group was very personable and funny. However, when I did ask the winner for a kiss on the cheek, he replied, “No way, girls make you go slow.” I was caught by surprise with that answer and was left without a kiss from the winner. I know for sure all the KTM Juniors had big smiles from ear to ear. Big thanks to KTM for 10 wonderful years with the KJSC program!
I also want to take a moment to thank those of you who have sent me e-mails. Your e-mails mean a great deal to me. I do read them all and am always in the process of responding to each one. Having two weeks off will give me time to get caught up. I have to admit my Supercross travel has been tight, but I absolutely love it. We have two weekends off now and I may have withdrawals. With that, I hope to do some riding of my own. My bike is looking pretty dusty. I am also going to head out to my old stomping grounds in Victorville, Ca to attend the WORCS race and hit the trails out in the desert - maybe hit Competitive Edge. From the looks of it the weather, it's going to be nice and warm, I may hit the lake too. Not only do I want to wakeboard, ski and tube – a Jet Ski ride sounds really good. That’s the next best thing to my dirt bike.
Houston , Texas ended the East Lites , now we will be off to the West in Dallas and Seattle, and then crown a champion at the Supercross Finals in Vegas. This season has flown by too fast and has proven to best the best racing we have seen in the history of this sport.
See you at the races!
