Miss Supercross Goes Wakeboarding
Brittney George

Orlando, FL - It's a great destination for Supercross and wakeboarding, two of my favorite sports. The weather was sunny and warm, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. My trip started off with a wakeboarding adventure at the home and wakeboard camp of Nick and Julz Heaney. Upon arrival, it was quickly apparent I was in wakeboard heaven. Not only was the lake beautiful but the surrounding area is so green and lush filled with exotic plants and yes, there were alligators in that lake. This was the only thing that freaked me out. I was assured by Nick. He said, “Don’t worry about the gators. They don’t like the noise of the boat.” Easy for him to say! Knowing that only helped a little, but only a little. It was so completely different from the Havasu desert and lake; we just have to worry about those pesky blue gills and fish habitats. Ha! Living in Lake Havasu , watersports are a big part of my life so the opportunity to visit the Heaney’s lake was a huge treat! Plus, I got to wakeboard behind a MasterCraft X-Star boat. This is the boat we see on display at each Supercross. From my perspective, MasterCraft and Supercross are a great match. From talking to Supercross fans and industry, I find that many enjoy watersports as well. It’s dirt biking in the winter and water sports in the summer. But as for Orlando , you can play in the water all year!

My afternoon began with meeting pro riders Nick Heany, Rusty Malinoski, Derek Grasman, and Jeff House.  Also along for the ride day were two managing editors for Wakeboarding Magazine, Zane Schwenk from MasterCraft, and Kilynn Honiotes and Wes Nobles from Live Nation. We all boarded the boat and the guys prepped to wakeboard first. Each wakeboard pro demonstrated his awesome talents. I was super impressed with the riders’ abilities and how effortless they made wakeboarding tricks such as grabs, doubles, 360s and more. They defiantly catch big air. It was amazing to watch them pull off their crazy tricks. These guys are awesome! It was a bit intimidating at first, but then I was ready to hit the water. I started from the docks which I had not done before. It was also my first time wakeboarding behind a Master Craft boat. It was a smooth ride and can easily pull anyone at any level of wakeboarding skills. The wakeboard generation is now and MasterCraft is the ideal boat! You see, I just ride just for the pure fun of it . F or me wakeboarding and water skiing are super relaxing. It's a way to unwind and enjoy life, the scenery, friends, and great exercise! Wes Nobles our Live Nation camera man even got out there and whipped out some of his wakeboard tricks. Good job, Wes!

Next, Nick and I rode double behind the boat. This was too cool. He gave me a mini lesson and great tips to help me improve my wakeboarding skills. His awesome teaching techniques and tips helped me feel more at ease and comfortable while wakeboarding. It made a world of difference. I learned so much in such a short amount of time and can’t wait for summer to begin back home so I can practice my new skills on my wakeboard. The whole event was so much fun but I have to admit one of my favorite parts was when Nick literally jumped over my head doing a 360. This was absolutely wild! There are actual pictures of this trick under the photos tab on this website.

At the end of the day I got to do an on-camera interview with Wakeboarding Magazine where I talked about the my very excellent day of wakeboarding, how I became involved with Supercross, MasterCraft's relationship with Supercross, and my participation in both wakeboarding and dirt biking at home. Wakeboarding Magazine and Master Craft are going to create a story for their website about the day and are also going to place photos of it in their magazine. I’m very thankful for this awesome experience and to have met these awesome pro wakeboarders. They were all perfect hosts for this event and I take away not only new wakeboard skills but great memories and new friends. Being Miss Supercross has opened many doors and great experiences for me - one being this great opportunity to wakeboard in Orlando .

See you at the races and maybe even on the lake!
