Miss Supercross Brittney :: San Diego
Brittney George

The enormous roar of the crowd is all I heard in the final lap of the Supercross main event as James made his move and passed RC. The roar overpowered the sound of the 450 four strokes and commentating of Erv Braun and Terry Boyd. It was action time again with the James / RC battle and the fans loved it! Qualcomm Stadium was packed. I believe Terry Boyd mentioned there were 64,500 fans in attendance. Race day, Saturday, was beautiful and warm, which drew tons of fans to the races early to watch practice, qualifying, and swarm the pits. Walking around in the pits mimicked gridlock on the San Diego Freeways. It was a sunny day, excellent for meeting and greeting fans.

The round up on the podium for the Supercross class was again Stewart, Carmichael, and Reed. And an outstanding performance of 4 th place by the King himself, McGrath, who raced his final Supercross race of the season. He is a true Supercross hero and he will always be popular to the fans of the sport.

At the start of the Lites class, the first turn was all Alessi. He took home yet another hole shot check. But not too long after the smooth and talented Short pulled in front to take the lead. Langston made a very strong effort to catch him and if there was one more lap to go, he might have done it.  Laninovich went down in the first turn of the race where he worked his way from last to the middle of the pack to earn 11 th place. There was a big battle between Ramsey, Langston, and Alessi for the podium spots. But Ramsey and Langston pulled it off to make the podium.  This leaves the point standings for the west very close. It will be interesting to see what takes place when we head back to the west in Seattle .

Friday night before the race I attended the Escondido Cycle Center ’s open house. I had the opportunity to sign autographs with many talented people within the motocross industry at ECC . It was a great event where tons of fans got to get up close to take pictures and get autographs from the long line of talent: Jamie Little, Brian Deegan, Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmicheal, Ivan Tedesco, Ryan Hughs, Tarah Gieger, Sarah Whitmore, Logan Darien, Levi Reid, and myself. I was honored to be signing with these stars from the industry. We all had a great time!

In a way the weekend was bitter sweet. We now end the west coast round of races until Seattle , but east here we come! With new dirt, cooler weather and a whole bunch of new fans, the east may bring some surprises. I'm so looking forward to checking out the track at the Edward Jones Dome in St Louis and see what the east cost Lites class has to offer.

Be safe and see you at the races!
