Round 2. Back east. Mt. Morris has been good and bad to me. The weather is usually an issue as rain seems endless in spring. This year it looked as if it could go either way again. Luckily for us, mother nature would show mercy and lots of sunshine.
Practice on Saturday went well for me. I felt decent and my times were inside the top 15 or 20. I left the track with some confidence, knowing my pace was close to where it needed to be.
Sunday morning I started off a little slow. My time was only 24th... not good considering both moto's gate picks would depend on my lap time. I knew I had to really pick up the pace in the 2nd practice.
I pushed hard in the 2nd practice... really hard. I improved my time up to 19th overall, 15th in the 2nd group. I was a little happier and got
5 better gate picks.
My first moto was a roller coaster. I started 5th, which was awesome. I then proceeded to go straight backwards to 15th or so within a few laps. I was struggling to find the pace. I latched onto a few guys finally and got going. I worked back up to 13th by the end, which wasn't bad.
Moto 2 was similar but better. I got another great start, but this time I was able to go with the leaders. I only got passed once, by Nick Wey, and that was it. I was 13th for the whole moto. I had a huge gap in front of me and a huge gap behind me. I was alone for 90% of the moto, which isn't always bad! I set a pace and watched for anyone catching me. Luckily, no one was coming and I just took it easy. I came home 13th again and was ready for that moto to be over. It was hot and rough and I had enough. 13-13 was good for 12th overall... I'm 13th in points now, only 2 points out of 11th.
We have a weekend off before Southwick. I have a lot of work to put in to make sure I am ready for 2 loooong motos in the sand.
