And so the work begins... Supercross ended 2 weeks ago in Vegas and after everyone recovered, the outdoors loomed ahead. The outdoor nationals are a different animal than supercross. SX is timing, finesse and concentration. Outdoors takes incredible endurance, strength and sheer will to be honest with you. There isn't anyone finishing in the top 20 at a national that doesn't wish for that 2 lap board to be out.

It's hot, there's rocks flying past your head and there are 39 other guys that want to beat you. To me, outdoors are about desire and who is willing to work harder.
The practices on Saturday are very important this year. In year's past, they didn't mean anything and most people took it easy, checking the track out. Changes this year have us qualifying for the actual national motos out of Saturday practice. Gone are the 4 lap qualifiers of years past. Sunday morning's practice is for the moto gate pick so its also no joke anymore.

I qualified 16th on Saturday, which is in the general area I expected to be right off the bat. I wanted to be up around 10 or 12 but I needed to pick up the pace for that. Sunday's practices were good and bad... my first practice was slow, 24th, and my second practice was better, putting me 15th. I was happier after the 2nd round, getting back up there.

The first moto was a fight from the back... I started in the 30's and just charged all moto. I passed into 18th on the last lap, salvaging a few points. I felt strong all moto, which was a good sign.

The second moto was more of the same but with a better start. I followed Kyle Lewis and Gracyk the entire moto and we pulled a 20 second gap to the pack behind us. I could never make a move on them and I ended up 16th. I wasn't thrilled with a 16th overall but it was a decent start to build on.
I want to thank my team for getting everything ready for the first race... I know it was a lot of work. Specifically, my dad, Forrest, Willie, Karsten and all of the mechanics. Talk to you after Mt. Morris!
