St. Louis was supposed to be a turn around weekend. I was feeling really good all week after a big crash in Atlanta . My bike was coming around and I was confident that the problems and bad luck were gone for good. If only that were the case…
Practice was so so... I had a problem in the first practice so I took it easy and tried to learn the track. The second practice was a lot better and I was 15th in the second round. The track was tricky, especially in the sand section after the start. Of course, it would end up haunting me. Heath Voss got tangled up right off the start of the heat race and I got caught up with him. I barely stayed up but had to stop and everyone went by. I saw on the pit board that I was 12th with a few laps to go... time was running out. I made it up to 11th at the checkers, missing the transfer by 2 spots.
The LCQ has been a crapshoot for me this year. I've had good and bad luck with them, and I guess this was time for a bad one. I got a mediocre start and was trying to work up quickly. I made a couple passes the first lap and as we were finishing the first lap I noticed my wheel felt funny. I had already committed to the triple when I figured out what that feeling was. My tire was completely flat! I'm not sure what happened, it was kind of a freak deal. I slowly rolled back to the mechanics area and walked back to the truck. My night was over...
I'm not sure why things have been so tough for me this year. I'm doing all the things I need to do during the week but its just not coming together yet. The next two races are my home races in Florida , so here's to hoping I can turn it around!
