JT Talks - Atlanta

I love Atlanta SX. I have always loved coming here. Its close to home, I love the dirt, and it marks the return to the east coast swing of sx.
All of my friends and family attend and its nice to have everyone watching. Its a short trip, especially by plane... making life easy. I have had a lot of mixed results over the years, however, so I knew it was a crapshoot.

I had a good trip to Atlanta, flying in Friday night just in time to eat a late dinner with Forrest and BB and get a good night's sleep. Saturday morning was going smoothly and it was nice to walk the track with my dad Saturday like old times. I went out for first practice and my steering was just too tight. I couldn't ride right and was frustrated to waste a practice. My mechanic got it straightened out and I headed out a couple hours later for my second practice. I put in a few laps and then took a tumble trying to triple a rhythm section. It was a stupid mistake and just added to my day's frustration. My bike was bent and twisted and I headed back to the BBMX truck. I tried to regroup before the night's racing and clear my head.

I was in heat 1 and was hoping for a good start. I came out mid pack and when Byrne and Josh Summey crashed in front of me, I had nowhere to go. I landed on their bikes and went face first into the next jump. Whether or not I was unconscious is anyone's guess. I felt fine though and since they red flagged the race, I headed back to the starting line. I was a little gun shy on the restart and never really got on the top 9 pace. I was headed for the LCQ again... Dang it!
I finally got a good start in the last chance and wanted to get to the front asap. I got into 2nd and Byrne crashed, handing me the lead. I sprinted to the finish and took the checkers!

The main event is 20 laps and Atlanta is always rutty and tricky. People were crashing everywhere! Reed, Byrne, Ramsey, Ferry, Millsaps, Carpenter, Evans, Preston, and Reynard all crashed at least once. I was just trying to catch up from a bad start and stay off the ground. I rode solid and ended up 13th. It wasn't my best race but I got 8 much needed points and got out healthy. I'm really looking forward to St. Louis. I've always had speed there and I hope this year is no different. Wish me luck and stop and say hi!
