JT Talks - Anaheim1
Jason Thomas

Anaheim 1 is on everyone's calendar. It's the most important race for all involved... riders, mechanics, sponsors, and team managers. Obviously its crucial then to qualify for the main and get a decent finish. That was my goal, get into the main event and put in 20 solid laps.

Practice was a little troublesome with some last minute bugs to work out. The second session was better, but my times were still not where I thought they should be. I knew I needed a good start and to pick up the pace in my heat race.

I got a decent start in my heat and rounded the first lap in 6th. I hovered around there to the finish and went straight to the main. I was relieved to get that far.
The main event wouldn't work out as well. I got a great jump out of the gate but spun a little on the plastic gate cover and was mired midpack on the first lap. I tried to settle into a pace on the super slippery Anaheim track, but didn't feel very comfortable. On about the 5th lap, I had a bike problem that ended my main event prematurely. I was stuck watching the rest of the race, watching points slip away. It wasn't what I wanted from the weekend but it could have been worse. Hopefully Phoenix will be better. Thanks for checking in and wish me luck in Arizona!
