Farber Asks - What do you think of the AMA's recent decision to give back the points? - 2.26.07
Mike Farber

QUESTION:

A few weeks ago Jason Thomas, Nick Wey, and Josh Hill had their points taken away for using illegal fuel. But there was one problem; there were too many discrepancies in the testing. The AMA said it was illegal but VP Fuels said there was nothing wrong with the fuel. After countless tests by both parties they couldn’t come to a conclusion on the fuel tests so the AMA decided to give the points back to Hill and Wey. They did say that Thomas’s fuel was to far over the limits to give him back his points. So I decided to go around and see what some of these industry insiders thought of the AMA’s decision."

“I’m glad they gave them back but I really think they rushed their judgment in the first place. I think they should have thought long and hard to fix the situation first before jumping to conclusions.”

“I think if they’re going to mandate something then they should stick to it! They need to get a better procedure testing the fuel because whatever there doing isn’t working.”

“I think they need to have spec-fuel. Obviously there is a rule that’s been violated a few times. If they had a spec-fuel then there wouldn’t be any problems.”

“It seems to me that they shouldn’t have taken the points away in the first place and this is why they have gotten themselves in trouble over the pass few years. They need to take a step back, look around, and determine what they’re going to do instead of just reacting off the bat!”

“I absolutely think it was the right thing to do especially since the amounts were so little. First off, this is out of the rider’s hands and they aren’t trying to cheat. Plus, the little amounts that they found are not going to enhance those bikes.”

“My opinion is, if there going to give back RC points like they did last year then these guys should get there points back. The testing is just not that accurate to be taking points away from these guys.”

“I’m glad they gave back there points because I don’t believe the testing is accurate from what I’m gathering from other mechanics. There are just too many discrepancies.”

“I think there was something wrong with the testing procedures and not the gas. Everyone is using the same fuel and no one needs to be cheating because these bikes have a lot of power.”
