Farber Asks - Will the AMA go back on their ruling about the fuel issue? - 2.13.07
Mike Farber

QUESTION:

Last week, we talked about what some people’s opinions were about the AMA’s decision to penalize Josh Hill, Jason Thomas, and Nick Wey. There were a lot of discrepancies with the testing between the AMA and VP Fuels because they both had different results.

This week, I thought it would be appropriate to see if some people thought that the AMA would go back on their ruling since the testing has been unclear. Let’s see what some of these industry insiders had to say.

“I guess in these situations you have no idea which way they’re going to go. I would like to see it overturned probably just like every other team manager out here. Were all running the same fuel and when I heard about it I wanted to take our fuel over there and get it tested to make sure we were all right. We’ve all done a lot of dyno work and testing and I just want to get this fuel situation fixed for all of us.”

“They said they were going to start cracking down on the fuel situation because of what happened to RC last year. I think it’s weird because VP sends it off and it comes back all right. Until everyone gets there gas from VP then there’s going to be some discrepancies. So I really think they should get there points back.”

“I think there is something definitely wrong with the ruling because sometimes they take points away and sometimes they give them back. I think until they get this fuel situation straight then they can’t take away their points.”

“My opinion is if they changed it for RC then they should change it for these guys.”

“I don’t think they’re going to take back the ruling because even though there are discrepancies in the testing, those riders don’t have the power like a James, Chad, or RC.”

“I think they will stand there ground on this situation because there were some variances in the fuel plus they have to relax the rule a little bit from last year with the levels.”

“I don’t believe they will overturn their ruling because I think it would set a negative credibility for them.”

“Like everyone else we put foam around the motors and use solid rotors. You also have to make sure you have plenty of hand guards because after a big crash, you will probably have to replace one. We also have different grips. If it gets really bad, we use a “Full Waffle” grip because it helps you hold on better.”
