QUESTION:
“
Well, there’s only four rounds to go in the Amp’d Mobile SX Championship. Let’s see if anyone in our industry thinks that either Chad Reed or James Stewart can beat Ricky Carmichael for the Supercross championship? "

“I think that Carmichael is not only experienced at winning championships, he has become comfortably secure in holding onto them. While Stewart and Reed are top shelf racers, it's Carmichael ’s ability to 'win' championships and ride for the championship that has positioned him as the world's greatest motocross racer. Looking back at this year, people can comment about fuel or someone else's DNF or the bike or when the guy doing my job in 50 years has to look at the media guide to see who won the AMA Supercross championship, it will read Ricky Carmichael. It seems like each year, something could always be found on why he won the championship, like Stewart's absence last year. The kid finds a way to win. Moreover, if he wins the championship for Suzuki this year, he will have given them more championships than any other racer in history. He's become a walking record book and a student of the game.”

“As we've seen this year, anything is possible. Who would've thought that RC and Stewart would finish 17th and 20th at St. Louis this year? But with only four rounds left, I think RC has it on cruise control. He's racing for the championship now, not the race win.” |

“No. With just 4 rounds to go, Ricky would need a mechanical failure in order for one of those guys to win. RC already had one of those this year. So there goes THAT theory.
It looks like RC wins the championship by 5 points. He’s the man. You just have to love that guy. He’s a hard working man. He’s driven and passionate and we are all fortunate enough to watch the fruits of his labor on Saturday nights. Enjoy it while it lasts!” |
“Absolutely, there are so many variables in racing and so many scenarios possible, a book could be written. Let me just throw this out there, what if it pours down rain in Seattle ? This in itself creates a 100 different possibilities. Normally, I would say the guys who are in second and third would have better odds because they have nothing to lose. But you can not deny the history of Ricky Carmichael. He is the only guy in that position that I would still say has the odds in his favor, and that’s only because he continually defies the odds and win championships year after year.”

“RC is in cruise control. He knows exactly what he needs to do to get the #1 plate. He knows individual race wins mean nothing when you are holding the plate up in Vegas!
Sorry to say, Reed was never on the pace of RC and JS. Someone had to win when the 2 top guys dnf'ed. James still may have another 'bad' race in the last 4 rounds, if history repeats itself.” |
“In most situations, I am a firm believer in the phrase "anything can happen". Except in this situation. Carmichael will not falter and this championship is his.”

"I believe Ricky will ride the way he needs to win the championship and won’t put himself in any position to lose that championship.” |
“I honestly don’t see Ricky losing this championship. It’s his to lose and RC doesn’t lose titles. James has figured out his speed, but unfortunately it’s too little too late. Chad’s shoulder has proven to be a little too much to overcome. The week of Daytona is where Reed & Stewart will wish they had never hit the ground and where RC locked up his 5 th SX title.”
