A Week As A Wife In Supercross - Anaheim 1 2008

Let’s start by saying Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope that the holidays treated you well with presents, friends, family and great food!  Joe and I were able to stay at home with our son, Leum, to relax a little bit before our lives get turned upside down in the next few weeks.

Joe has been training quite extensively for the past two months, much more than he has before.  He is getting in the best shape physically and mentally that he has ever been and I couldn’t be more proud of his dedication to his dreams.

We have had many calls in regards to what Joe’s 2008 season looks like.  As of the first of December, he didn’t know what it looked like.  Then, he got hooked up with a great team that is dedicated to succeeding.  They are willing to put the time and effort into getting their equipment ready before they jump into the ring.  We can’t say yet who the deal is through, but in a few more days you should find out.

Some of you may be wondering why Joe didn’t race Anaheim 1.  Luckily for us, there are six “hometown” Supercross events that are very close to home.  It was hard not to have Joe race this season opener, but in the end, it just wasn’t time.  With the new team collaboration, things should start out very smooth and much easier than in Joe’s past racing years.  We aren’t sure what event will be Joe’s first for the 2008 season…but when I know, I will let you all know.

I have to say though, not having Joe race the season opener made it much easier on us with the weather and all.  With SPEED having the event live on television, we were able to sit on our couch and have Leum run his motorcycle all over the screen making his brrrmmm, brrrmmm noises!  I have to admit, seeing the muddy conditions I was not saddened that I wouldn’t have to be washing muddy gear on Sunday either!

To say the start of the 2008 Monster Energy Supercross Season was interesting is not giving it justice!  For weeks now, the top motocross racers in the world have been preparing themselves and their equipment for the season opener in Anaheim.  No one ever thought this was how it would play out with the weather until a few days before.

There are so many behind the scenes players that you don’t ever hear about.  Just seeing from the television viewers’ side, it didn’t do the track work justice.  Every crew member that is responsible from the building of the tracks, to the quick adjustments, to the schedule for racing should be applauded for how smooth things worked out.  The weather definitely didn’t help those that have spent months preparing for this event…but you have to admit it was good racing!

I am excited to see what is going to happen in the West Coast Lites Class as well as the Supercross Class.  After seeing last nights events unfold, it appears that anything really can happen!  I hope to bring you some interesting things from a wife’s view throughout the year.  I should have some interesting stuff to talk about here soon!  See you next week!
