I have to admit, the two week break was awesome! I finally had a chance to spend time with my husband on a Saturday night away from the races! As things always go, when there is a break we try to fit in everything we can that we put off at the beginning of the season.
We got a group of friends together the first weekend off and went to dinner and a movie with no kids…pure entertainment let me tell you! The next weekend we attended a Los Angeles Clippers game at the Staples Center before their playoff games started. We were invited to go to the game from one of Joe’s sponsors for the last couple of years – Vito from Victorville Motorcycle Center here in town.
He rented a bus and filled it with food and beverages for all his workers and their families. It was a great time and Joe even got a cheer during the game from some high school cheerleaders for his awesome finish in Dallas…it was a great time for everyone!
With having Joe home, I was able to get him out to Competitive Edge to help me get some things in order. It’s nice having him there to help out all our guys in knowing what we can improve on as a facility. His opinions are coming from someone who has the experience, so that helps all of us know what the customers are wanting first hand.
Joe and Gerald got to Detroit on Friday afternoon. They were able to fly first class the whole way due to their airline miles. Let’s just say that the other industry people on the flights were shaking their heads!
With Joe and I being from Ohio, Detroit and Indianapolis are the closest rounds for any of our family and friends to come see Joe race. He had some hometown friends show up to watch him in action. He showed them that his last two finishes were where he should be.
He went into the heat race at night qualifying 21 st into the night show. After a first turn pileup with about five other riders, he started out last and wound up going to the LCQ. In Joe’s words…he couldn’t buy a start if he had to that night. He ended up with a horrible start in the LCQ and pushed his way to 6 th. Joe knew that he was riding good, but just couldn’t get the jump he needed to.
When Joe and Gerald got back to the hotel that night, they found a party downstairs. The Pro Circuit team and a bunch of other industry people were staying at the same hotel. Pro Circuit was celebrating Ben Townley’s Championship and the rest of the crowd was enjoying some down time.
The boys flew back in on Sunday – first class again - into cold weather in California. It was about 45 degrees and trying to rain. Thank goodness the rest of the week should be sunshine and 80!
Joe is looking forward to completing his comeback Supercross season in a couple of weeks. I know it isn’t where he wants to be with only 13 points, but personally, I couldn’t be more proud of the spot he is in. Thanks for continually reading about our crazy lives! Talk to you next week.
