This week was a little chaotic for us. With the time off during the holidays, and the season abruptly starting, it’s hard to get back into the swing of things. We spent Sunday relaxing with the family and enjoying the day off after Anaheim 1. Monday we got back into the work week with Joe training and me working with “all” my jobs.
As you may know, I am the Sales/Marketing Manager at Competitive Edge MX Park in Hesperia, California. I work there two days a week, but in reality, I am working for CEMX every day of the week with the amount of things that need to happen to keep that track going strong. I also help in the marketing department for Acorn Woods Communications. Part of my job at Acorn Woods is to write press releases for the WBR/Rockstar/Suzuki team after each race. I do that every week along with writing these articles. I am also the Co-President for the Women’s Motocross/Supercross Foundation. Currently, we are selling tickets to every round of the SX Series, so as you can imagine I get flooded with emails like crazy from every direction.
I get all that done every week and take care of my husband and a 4 month old. I never believed that would be possible, but crazy as it may sound, I truly enjoy it! My life is not a normal life. I travel constantly from city to city and job to job…slowing down just isn’t an option for me right now.
With all that said, here is how our week went…
Joe and Gerald – his mechanic – went over some changes on the bike from the weekend on Monday. They worked out in the evening and planned their testing days. Joe rode and trained Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and was able to dial in more of his bike to his liking. Having KTM R&D at the tracks for the factory insight is great! Ryan Ragland from KTM has been a godsend to Joe and Gerald. Making the KTM450SX a great addition to the lineup of bikes in 2007 is their main focus…and it’s working.
We flew out to Phoenix on Friday afternoon from Ontario. Ontario is the airport that most motocross people fly in and out of because that is where most of them live. It is not uncommon at all to have more than 10 people affiliated with the industry on your flights to and from the races. It’s fun though, because we have all grown to enjoy our “racing family” away from home. You spend so much time with these people…every weekend…they become your friends outside of the work environment.
We got to freezing cold Phoenix – never thought I would say that - and tried to stay warm for the event. It never warmed up…it stayed at about 40-50 degrees…and that is being nice! Joe began his work day with a great start in the heat race but got shut out in the first rhythm section. After that, he worked his way up to 11th place in the heat race. The LCQ didn’t start off as nice. He got a bad start and was only able to work his way up to 10th place. The start is everything at supercross, especially if the lap times are only 45 seconds long!
We flew back to Hesperia Sunday morning – again with our racing family – and got the chance to relax, but only for a few hours. We have to do this all over again next weekend! See you at Anaheim 2!
