If you had the chance to check out the racing this week in Anaheim, you may have noticed the color of the bike Joe was riding – orange. Actually, he was the ONLY KTM450SX rider in the Supercross class!
Joe got his deal worked out with the Fire/Police MX Team over the last few weeks. He will be riding all 16 rounds of the Supercross Series under the Fire/Police MX Team awning.
The weeks leading up to this event were to say the least hectic! Joe had lots of testing to do with KTM to get the bike into a more comfortable style for him. Joe and Gerald – his mechanic – have been at the test tracks for three straight weeks getting the bike dialed. There are still kinks that need to be smoothed out, but for the most part, it’s a good timeline that they are dealing with.
Joe came into this weekend not knowing how things would work out. He gave it his all and came up short in both the heat and LCQ. He finished 12th in the heat after a rocky start, but came back in the LCQ with a 5th place start. Towards the end of the race, Joe passed his way into 3rd, but ended up tagging Kyle Lewis’s back wheel in the last set of whoops. That tweaked Joe’s front end substantially that a few turns later, it gave way in the inside rut. Joe fell and ended up 6th for the night.
The 2007 KTM450SX is a great fit for Joe. He is excited with how the bike handles…the electric start is definitely a plus too! If you haven’t had the chance to check out this new ride, you should! It doesn’t even come with a kick starter. KTM is so confident in their electric start, that it isn’t even an option to try and kick it over!
As you can imagine, things are just as crazy for me as well. I am continuing with the WMXF in the track walks for every round. I was able to take a group of fans on the track before the night show and give them a first hand look at what these riders see every weekend – their “cubicle at work” if you will.
I am still at Competitive Edge MX Park working as the Sales/Marketing Manager and getting ready for the crazy year ahead of us there! I also help Acorn Woods Communication in the marketing department with some industry companies they support with PR. Not to mention, our almost 4 month old son and trying to keep Joe’s travel plans in order! Things are always crazy for us this time of year and this year isn’t any different.
Don’t forget to check out the Women’s Motocross/Supercross Foundation’s website to get information about our upcoming events and tickets still available for the rest of the Supercross races – www.wmxf.org
If you get the chance to check out the races live this year, they are sure to be spectacular! Just the opening ceremonies at these races are something to remember! Have a great week and we will see you at Phoenix.
