Jace Owen to Make Monster Energy Cup Debut

AURORA, Ill. (September 11, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki rider Jace Owen, of Mattoon, Ill., will race in the Amateur All-Star Class at the 2012 Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

Owen, 17, who finished fourth this year at Loretta Lynn's in the 250B Stock Class has 17 Amateur National titles to his credit. Owen is one of the 22 top amateur riders at this year's Monster Energy Cup that will represent the next generation of racers as they compete on the world's biggest stage with 3.5 hours of live television coverage. Consisting of two, five-lap Main Events, the Amateur All-Star Class features the graduating class of top amateurs that will turn professional the following season.

"The half motocross, half supercross track is cool," said Owen. "I like to race supercross a lot. I think my style suits supercross a little bit better because I like it to be a little bit more technical. To be able to race in front of a crowd like that, you really don't get to go that as an amateur. I think getting to experience something like that will help going in to the races."

Owen, who credits Ricky Carmichael as his favorite rider is excited that his idol is once again designing the track for the Monster Energy Cup.

"Ricky Carmichael is a legend," explained Owen. "He's the goat and he's obviously the goat for a reason. For me to be able to race that he made for everyone, I think it will b awesome. Last year the track looked really fun so hopefully it's the same this year with a couple big jumps that you could throw some cool whips on."

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200' of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.
