Two-Time World Champion Marvin Musquin to Race Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, Ill. (July 26, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports^® announced today that Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, of Murrieta, Calif., will race in the second annual Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

Musquin made his Western Regional Supercross Lites Class debut this season, finishing 3rd overall. He earned four podium finishes and two additional top-five finishes. At last year’s inaugural Monster Energy Cup, Musquin went head-to-head against the top supercross riders in the world and aboard a 350cc motorcycle and finished 11th with 8-8-17 results.

“That was a good opportunity for me to ride a 350,” said Musquin. “And also, it was the first supercross race for me in the U.S. It was pretty cool because it’s supercross and motocross at the same time and it’s nice to go outside the stadium.”

Born in France, Musquin won back-to-back MX2 World Motocross Grand Prix Championships in 2009 and 2010 before coming to the United States. In 2009, he also won the MX2 overall at the Motocross des Nations. The two-time world champion is geared up to compete alongside the world’s top riders for this stand-alone event. 

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200’ of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.
